A handbook from the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning identifies principles and policy mechanisms to advance community-based learning for sustainable development. It clarifies the international vision and goals for sustainable development, and education for sustainable development, and identifies the potential contributions of community-based learning centres and organizations.
Citizen science promotes volunteering and intergenerational learning. It connects people to their local communities and nature. Education Scotland has just published a new Citizen Science in Curriculum for Excellence Guide which introduces Citizen Science, a brief history and contains links to resources to support learning.
In the interactive Resilience game from Harvard University, you will learn how the choices we make can help children and the community as a whole become more resilient in the face of serious challenges. Negative events can occur at any moment, and it’s your job to choose positive events to counteract these negatives.
This seminar - Small Steps-Big Changes- the Learning for Sustainability dimension of Community learning and Development was co-delivered by members of the National CLD working group and Learning for Sustainability Scotland on 27 February 2014. The seminar aimed to bring together, and to encourage increased co-working between those with community learning and development (CLD) and learning for sustainability (LFS) experience and expertise.

- Participants of the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 10 to 12 November 2014, adopted this Declaration and called for urgent action to further strengthen and scale up Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), in order to enable current generations to meet their needs while allowing future generations to meet their own, with a balanced and integrated approach regarding the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.
- This report was produced by Education Scotland as a result of a series of conversations with educational establishment across Scotland. Twenty establishments in 14 local authorities were visited. The selected schools and centres reflected a variety of geographical and socio-economic contexts and included early years establishments, primary and secondary schools, and also schools for learners with additional support needs (ASN). All the schools and centres chosen had been identified as having interesting approaches or a long-standing commitment to learning for sustainability.
- The values and principles of learning for sustainability have been embedded within the new General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS) Professional Standards for all registered teachers, education practitioners and school leaders.

The aim is to provide expert, technical information to help community groups who want to grow food to assess and tackle the issue of soil contamination. The information in this guide will also be useful to landowners, local authority officers and people who are supporting community groups who want to grow on potentially contaminated land.
