Read through or watch the following information on the CLD Standards Council Registration System.

The fact that you are here doing your induction means that you are already registered as a CLDSC full or associate member. If not, you can find out more here.

Before you look at the details, here is a fun video explaining some of the key benefits of membership:

Being a member of CLD Standards Council provides the following:

  • Consolidates CLD as a clear and distinct professional area
  • Strengthens a shared professional identity within this diverse area of practice
  • Defines and maintains high standards within CLD practice

Membership is open to CLD practitioners who demonstrate commitment to the values, principles, Code of ethics and Continuing professional learning that underpin the sector.

Who can register?

There are 2 categories of membership depending on your qualifications and CLD Practice and Experience:

  1. Associate membership, or
  2. Registered membership.

Individual Recognition Process

Individual Recognition is the process by which an individual who does not have a recognised degree level qualification can apply to become a Registered member of the CLD Standards Council.

So, if you are an Associate, or if you have a colleague that is an associate, and you do not hold a recognised qualification then you can apply for Registered membership through the individual recognition process. The process requires applicants to demonstrate that their education, training and experience has equipped them to a standard comparable with professionals who meet the specified criteria.

The applicant must provide evidence of this on a written application supported by a professional reference.  The application will be reviewed by a panel from the Registration committee and  a panel interview via teleconference may be requested. You can find more information on the CLD Standards Council website.

The Renewal Process

The purpose of renewal is to ensure the ongoing validity and credibility of the registration system by ensuring that all registered members continue to practise according to the values and ethics of Community Learning and Development in Scotland.
