2.4 When do I need a new referee

Your referee needs to be someone who can confirm that you evidence your commitment to the principles and practices on an ongoing basis. They therefore need to be someone who has sufficient knowledge of your current working practice to do this.

When you renew your registration you will be asked if your previous referee is still relevant, this means that you are still in active contact, on the same CLD practice basis and they can still confirm that you evidence your commitment to the principles and practices. If not, then you must provide a new referee. This might typically happen if –

  • You have changed employer
  • You have taken up a new role
  • Your previous referee has moved employer / role / retired.
  • You have completed your academic course where you used your tutor/lecturer as a referee
